CHICAGO TRIBUNE, Angelica LaVito – A crane-like machine slowly reached into the water of a channel along Fox Lake Road, dragged its claws along the bottom and scooped out dark brown sludge.

The operator repeated the motion numerous times as part of a project to remove sediment from the water in the channel.
